Books & Month Close

Keep the books tidy and close each month on time. A bookkeeper books every receipt and sale into a categorized ledger, works through a month-close checklist with you, and keeps a P&L snapshot one glance away.

What’s inside

The crew

  • Bookkeeper Crew leadA careful keeper of a small business's books: every receipt booked with its proof, every entry in a category, each month closed on a checklist, and the cash planned weeks ahead.

Plans it follows

  • Receipt IntakeEmpty the shoebox inbox properly: every waiting receipt becomes a dated, categorized ledger entry that names its source file, likely duplicates get flagged instead of double-counted, and the genuinely ambiguous ones become owner questions instead of guesses.

Actions the crew can take

  • Books statusLast month's P&L (income, cost of jobs, gross and net profit by category), the month-close checklist with the steps still to do, receipts waiting in the inbox, and entries that need a category, each with its id.

  • Categorize entryGive an entry its category, or change it, found by id or payee.
  • Tick close stepCheck off a month-close step for the month being closed: bank, card, payroll, income, review, or receipts (when the leftover inbox files are set aside).
  • Close monthClose a finished month once every step on its checklist is done; its entries are then locked.
  • Reopen monthReopen a closed month so an entry in it can be fixed.
  • List entriesEvery entry for a month (YYYY-MM), with ids, payees, amounts, categories and receipts.

Each action is a small script that changes the app’s files, checked by Gezel’s security settings before it runs.
