gezel Gezel Handboek

Notifications

Gezel only sends you a notification when something actually happened:

  • a gezel asked you a question and is waiting on your answer,

  • work you asked for is finished,

  • your crew worked overnight and the morning review is ready,

  • a gezel reached a new level (only with social mode on),

  • a project worked out that something is due. Flashcards, for example, remind you when your next cards come up for review. The time comes from your own cards, never from a schedule picked to bring you back.

Gezel never sends a notification just because time passed. You won't get "haven't seen you in a while".

How many

At most three a day by default. If several things happen at once, you get one notification ("3 things are waiting") instead of a pile. While you're looking at gezel, it doesn't notify you at all, because you can already see what happened.

Change the number in Settings → General → Notifications: Off, 1, 3, 5 or 10 a day. Anything over the limit still waits for you where it always is, in Updates and in its chat. The limit only decides how often gezel interrupts you.

On your desktop and your phone

On your desktop, notifications arrive even when the gezel window is closed, as long as the app is running. On a phone, gezel asks for permission the first time something worth a notification happens while you're using it. Reminders are handed to your phone, so they arrive even when gezel is closed.
